Tree-of-Life: Earth (II) 90 x 60 cm oil on board 1975

This Tree-of-Life is the seventh of the ninetych. Earth unveils her splendour into the mirage-like remoteness of a lovely Arcádia. The Tree-of-Life is moulded from her purest element, crystal, through which seven lotus blossoms climb upward; symbol of purity and sanctity. The couple has come to perfect harmony in the maithuna position, reaching ecstatic unity. Together they ascend towards the lotus. Human consciousness awakens.

This is the fifth of the Tree-of-Life ninetych. The first four trees-of-life, Fire (man), Water(woman), Earth(couple) and Air (child), grow in a grotto; the main figures in peace-ful repose: the sleeping, human consciousness. These four paintings are represent-ed in the first Artim edition (1975). In the second series of four, the landscape reaches the distant horizon. In the fire-country, with volcanoes and a river of fire, the man ascends as an angel in his life-tree of flames towards the fire-bird at the top, symbol of regeneration. Diana Vandenberg The Mandala of Love 93 x 93 cm oil on board 1973

Witnessing the birth of Artim were seven artists with inspirational ties, who became friends. One of them, Diana Vandenberg, had the sudden, grand idea to make a combined portrait for their col-lective exhibitions. For nine months she harboured this idea, resulting in four months' work. The Mandala of Love became a reality. Through the ages a mandala has been the universal symbol of inte-gration, harmony and creation. "In the Beginning, the Centre" (the Creator), out of which the mandala flows and creation comes into being.Compare: galaxies, the eye, the cross section of a stem, Tibetan meditation paintings - everything is mandala, from its centre to the circumference.

Through the nucleus of Diana's Mandala, one looks into the universe. A sphere floats there, the eternal principle, in which towers and temples of a holy city form the word LOVE. This is the binding element of the artists gathered into the painting that hangs suspended in the cosmos. Johfra Bosschart, Frans Erkelens, Johan Hermsen, Han Koning, Vic-tor Linford, Ellen Lórien, Diana Vandenberg.

Each of the seven has been represented in his own personal aura, as in a jewel, appearing as seven finely-cut agates. Each has his own spectral colour, in correlation withtheir individual zodiacal signs. All of them work with the powers of the dragon (Yang) and the mush-room (Yin).

In the four corners of the 'uni-verse' we find in the upper-left, the muse of the painters; in the lower-left corner, the horse's head (Eros) and in the lower-right corner, the cosmic egg.

To the upper-right, the artisfs double signature: the painted god-dess with bow and arrow on the mountain, and her written name. The painter of the Mandala set her-self apart in a barely perceivable manner.

She is dressed and the light falls on her in another way than upon the other six. For Artim this is an historical painting and will permanently ex-hibit in the Artim Gallery, The Hague.
